Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek is an often overlooked museum and art collection based in Copenhagen. If you ever find yourself in the area, do yourself a favor, and visit this majestic museum!
If you consider yourself fairly interested in art, and if you ever happen to find yourself in Copenhagen, please do visit Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek! This art museum is situated in the center of Copenhagen, and it truly is one of my favourite museums. I mean, I am such a sucker for high ceilings and endless rows of ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian statues, as well as fairly ‘new’ statues made in Denmark.
Although I live pretty close to Copenhagen, this was my first visit to Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek! My expectations were already pretty high but, oh boy, I was not dissapointed.
Why Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek is worth a visit
This museum was founded in 1897, and I feel like the building in itself, is worth a visit! It truly is breathtaking, and you can really sense the details in every panel and ceiling decoration. Whenever I stepped into a new hallway, I found myself entering an ancient world. The atmosphere was quite enchanting, and I spent a good three hours observing these treasures.
One of my personal favourite features of this museum is the beautiful winter garden! A collection of tropical palmtrees and plants in the middle of Copenhagen, I mean what is not to love? This winter garden is the heart of the museum, a place where people gather to enjoy the warmth and beauty around. This garden is probably the place where you may find larger groups of people, however, I did not find this to be a problem at all. When I was scouting the museum, I found myself only sharing the hallways with a few people. This is a huge plus! It gave me the opportunity to really take it all in, withouty having to consider huge crowds of people. This place is so underrated.
